“Baltata” Nature Reserve

Right next to Albena lies the “Baltata” Nature Reserve, known for its longoz forest. It is situated along the lower reaches of the Batova River and is home to over 260 plant species, including protected species. The area offers opportunities for hiking and nature observation, with hiking trails connecting Albena and Kranevo.

Balchik

Just a short distance from Albena lies Balchik - one of the most picturesque towns on the Northern Black Sea Coast. Among its most popular attractions are the “Palace” architectural and park complex, associated with Queen Maria of Romania, and the University Botanical Garden. The area around Balchik is also known for its golf courses.

Cape Kaliakra

Further north, you can visit Cape Kaliakra - an impressive natural and historical reserve that juts out about 2 km into the Black Sea. Within its boundaries, you can see the remains of fortress walls and buildings that bear witness to the site’s rich history.

Kaliakra is also known for its many legends, the most popular of which tells the story of 40 Bulgarian maidens who chose to jump into the sea rather than fall into the hands of the Ottomans.

Other Interesting Places

Albena is a convenient starting point for longer trips along the Northern Black Sea Coast. By car, you can continue on to Kavarna, Kranevo, Golden Sands, and Varna, as well as to other natural and cultural attractions in the region.

For nature lovers, Durankulak Lake, located considerably further north along the coast, is also an interesting destination. Because of the greater distance, a car is particularly convenient if you want to include it in a day trip.
