Cross-border travel fee for rental cars

Planning a trip to Greece, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia or the European part of Turkey? With TOP MOBILITY, you can use your rental car outside Bulgaria with prior approval.

To travel abroad with a rental car, you must request the “Cross border” service in advance. Once approved by TOP MOBILITY, the necessary documents for using the vehicle outside Bulgaria will be issued and the applicable administrative fee will be charged.

The fee depends on the class of the rental car.

After receiving our confirmation, you must send a scanned copy of your driving licence and your passport details at least 1 business day before the start of the rental period. Restrictions may apply.

What is the cross border fee?

The “Cross border” fee is an administrative fee for authorising the use of the vehicle outside Bulgaria and issuing the required power of attorney.

How many countries can you visit with one car?

The fee listed in the table applies to one country.

If you plan to visit more than one of the permitted countries during your trip, an additional fee of 50% of the initial “Cross border” fee is charged for each additional country.

For example, if the fee for your vehicle is 100 € and you plan to travel through two countries, the fee for the second country is 50 €.

How long is the power of attorney valid?

The power of attorney for cross-border travel is valid until the end of the rental period, but for no more than 25 days.

For rentals lasting more than 25 days where the vehicle will remain outside Bulgaria, a new power of attorney must be issued and the applicable fee must be paid again.

If a rental that includes cross-border travel is extended, a new power of attorney will be issued for the extension period.

What does the cross border fee include?

The “Cross border” fee covers the administrative services related to authorising travel outside Bulgaria and issuing the required documents.

It does not include the following expenses:

• crossing international borders;

• road tolls;

• vignettes;

• toll charges;

• parking fees;

• other local fees;

• expenses incurred while using the vehicle outside Bulgaria.

These expenses are the responsibility of the renter.
